Tabaton for Chrome
Privacy policy
Effective November 5, 2026
Tabaton keeps everything on your computer. It has no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no ads, and it never sends your tabs, pages or searches anywhere.
Below is exactly what it reads, what it saves, and why.
Who we are
Tabaton is a Chrome extension made by VioletCup. This policy covers the extension and this website, tabaton.violetcup.com.
What Tabaton reads, and why
- Your windows, tab groups and tabs. Their titles, web addresses and icons, and whether a tab is playing sound. Tabaton needs these to show the list and to move, group, nest, sleep and close tabs when you ask.
- The text of your open pages, only when you turn on Content. To find the word you searched for, Tabaton reads the text inside your open tabs, on your computer. The text is used for that search only. It is not saved and not sent.
- Your bookmarks, only when you save tabs to bookmarks. Tabaton then creates a folder named Tabaton and puts the tabs there. It does not read your other bookmarks for anything else.
- A page title, when you rename a tab. Tabaton changes the title of that page in your browser so the new name shows in Chrome.
What Tabaton saves on your computer
Tabaton uses Chrome's own extension storage on your device. It saves:
- the names you give your windows and how your groups are nested;
- recently closed windows, groups and tabs, with their titles and web addresses, so you can bring them back;
- sessions you choose to save;
- your recent searches in the panel;
- your text size and the date you installed Tabaton.
This data stays in Chrome on this computer. Tabaton does not sync it to other devices. Removing the extension deletes it.
When you export a session, Tabaton saves a file through Chrome's normal download, to the place you choose. When you import a session, it reads only the file you pick.
What Tabaton does not do
- It does not send any data to us or to anyone else. The extension makes no network requests of its own.
- It has no analytics, tracking, ads or accounts.
- It does not sell, rent or share data, and it does not use your data for advertising or credit decisions.
- It does not load or run code from the internet. All of its code ships with the extension.
Permissions
Chrome asks you to allow these when you install Tabaton. Here is what each one is for.
- tabs
- See and manage your tabs: titles, web addresses, moving, closing and sleeping them.
- tabGroups
- See and change your tab groups: names, colors, folding and moving them.
- sidePanel
- Show Tabaton in Chrome's side panel.
- storage
- Keep the data listed above on your computer.
- favicon
- Show each site's icon next to its tab.
- bookmarks
- Save tabs to a Tabaton bookmarks folder when you ask.
- scripting
- Read page text for Content search, and change a page's title when you rename a tab.
- Access to all sites
- Needed so Content search and renaming work on whatever pages you have open. Tabaton uses it only for those two things, on your computer.
Chrome Web Store policy
Tabaton's use of information received from Chrome follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
This website
tabaton.violetcup.com does not use cookies, analytics or ads. Its fonts come from Google Fonts, so when you open the site your browser asks Google for them, and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. Google's handling of it is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Changes
If Tabaton ever starts handling data differently, this page will change first, with a new date at the top.
